According to a joint report by the World Health Organization and the Global Health Workforce Alliance, there are currently 7.2 million healthcare professionals needed worldwide, and that number is expected to rise to 12.9 million by 2035. A Universal Truth: No Health Without a Workforce from 2013 highlights India's appalling density of 15.2 competent health professionals per 10,000 people (way below the global threshold of 22.8).
